Advocating for Justice in the workplace
As we enter September, we celebrate Labor Day—a holiday that gives us an opportunity not only to appreci-ate the work people do, but also to reflect on the dignity, value, and struggles of workers in our communities and around the world. For United Methodists, concern for workers is not a new idea. Our church has a long history of standing with working people and advocating for justice in the workplace. We believe that work is more than simply a way to earn a paycheck. Work can be an expression of God-given creativity, responsibility, and stewardship. At the same time, every person who works deserves to be treated with dignity, fairness, and respect.

Youth Group Starts September 9
YOUTH GROUP YEAR IN REVIEW
Not only do the youth eat a delicious meal and learn about the teachings of Jesus, but they are a group who are of service to others.
During the fall the kids served a spaghetti meal to the congregation to raise funds for our church's mission shares. One evening they helped clean up the church's flower/pumpkin planters. They helped pack the 75 Thanks-giving Boxes that were delivered to the community.
During the winter season they helped set up tables and sorted items for the Gifts of the Heart, which is our fundraiser for the Ministerial Association. Christmas caroling was a highlight as they traveled the streets on a hay wagon singing to all who could hear them.
As spring arrived, the youth helped with Listening Encounters Bingo joining in the evening of companionship. A very rewarding service project ended the year by serving a meal to the patrons of the Homeless Shelter in North Platte. The group received many compliments from the Shelter about how kind and accepting they were when they were sharing the meal.
