Purpose & Vision

The purpose of the Gothenburg United Methodist Church is to be an instrument of God's love through an intentional ministry of Christian nurture, worship, fellowship, and missional outreach to the end that the saving grace of Jesus Christ may be brought to bear upon the needs of persons in our community and around the world.

As our Statement of Purpose declares, we will be intentional in bringing to bear the saving grace of Jesus Christ by being involved in mission.  As a growing, vital, and authentic community of faith following the example of Jesus Christ, we define mission in three areas:  local, national, and global, and we will be involved at each level.  Ever aware of our needs, we acknowledge as our Biblical mandate the call to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, receive the stranger, clothe the naked, care for the sick, and visit the prisoner.  We will celebrate the awe, mystery, and wonder of life and faith through the power of the Holy Spirit through prayer and worship, both personally and collectively.  We are committed to live in grace in our church community and in outreach to the community in which we live.
